International Affairs
- Modi's Japan Visit
- Japan today agreed to work with India in developing a treatment for the Sickle Cell Anaemia after Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought help for finding remedy to the deadly disease commonly found among tribal in India.
- Modi said on Saturday that the India-Japan relationship was below potential and the two sides would strive to achieve in five years the unrealized hopes of five decades.
- Modi visit ancient Buddhist temple in Japan (Toji temple in Kyoto).
National Affairs
- Aiming to ensure greater passenger safety and smooth train operations, Railways is installing a state-of-the-art-system along the sides of tracks for detection of faults and defective parts in coaches, wagons and locomotives.
- This track-side equipment can detect overheated bearings, wheels and brake discs in trains and help staff take fast decisions as to whether or not the train in safe to run.
- Chennai Metro Rail may begin its service from Koyambedu to Alandur by mid-November.
Deaths Affairs
- Legendary Telugu Filmmaker and Cartoonist Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana, popularly known as Bapu (15th December, 1933 - 31st August, 2014) died today.
- He used to make films with his friends Mullapudi Venkata Ramana. The duo is famous as Bapu-Ramana (Ramana died in 2011).
- He is a music artist, painter, illustrator, cartoonist and designer.
- In 2013, he was awarded the Padma Shri, for contribution to India art and cinema.
- He has won Two National Film Awards, Two Filmfare Best Director Awards
- Seeta Kalyanam & Vamsa Vruksham are his famous films.
Business & Economy Affairs
- In a major overhaul of its functioning, capital markets watchdog SEBI has fixed one-year target for completion of all its investigations, while sharply focusing on cases involving bigger offences. There 221 investigations pending with SEBI right now.
Sports Affairs
- P.V. Sindhu suffered a heartbreak at the World Badminton Championship as the India shuttler has to settle for a Second Consecutive Bronze Medal after succumbing to Carolina Marin of Spain in Straight games at the Semifinals, in Copenhagen.
