  • Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said banks have opened about 2014 Crore Saving Accounts since the launch of Jan Dhan Yojana on August 28.
International Affairs
  • US Military Operations in Iraq, including airstrikes and surveillance fights, have cost about USD 560 Million since mid-June, the Pentagon has said today.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a 5 Day visit to Japan. He has arrived in Kyoto (Japan) today. This visit is expected to see new vistas being opened in bilateral ties with particular focus on cooperation in the fields of defense, civil nuclear and infrastructure beside commerce.
  • This is his first bilateral visit outside the subcontinent as the Prime Minister.
  • Japan PM ShinzoAbe welcomes PM Narendra Modi.
  • Narendra Modi gifts a book "Swami Vivekananda and Japan" and a copy of Bhagawad Gita to ShinzoAbe.
  • The US has called for a global coalition to address the challenge being posed by terror group ISIS that has gained control over large parts of Iraq and Syria,threatening to spread to other parts of the world.
  • Malaysia and India will soon review their economic cooperation pact, signed in 2011, to chart out ways to enhance and diversify trade further, the Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia has side today.
  • An Egyptian court sentenced Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Mohammed Badie and seven others to life in prison today on charges of planning riots, murder and sabotage.

  • India and Japan sign Kyoto-Varanasi Partnership Agreement:-
    • The Partnership, which focuses on how to preserve heritage while building smart cities, was signed between Kyoto Mayor Daisaku Kasokawa and India's Ambassador to Japan Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa.

Deaths Affairs
  • Renowned Indian Historian and writer Dr. Bipan Chandra, author of India's Struggle for Independence and India Since Independence, has passed away:-
    • He was Padma Bhushan Awardee.
    • He was appointed Chairman of the National Bank Trust, New Delhi in 2004 and held the post until 2012.
